Bee BehaviorBees may be solitary or social insects. Honeybees and bumblebees live in colonies. Carpenter bees are solitary and do not live in colonies. There are three types of honeybees: the queen, workers and drones. The queen lays the eggs. The workers are females; they gather food, make honey and guard the hive. The drones are males; they mate with the queen. Bees eat nectar and gather pollen to feed their young. They communicate with each other by a dance called "the bee dance". Bees sting to protect themselves or their hive. After one sting the honeybee will die, but bumblebees can sting more than once.
